September 21st, 2014 - Mixed Bag of Results for Gillbertson Racing
Matt and his Seubert Calf Ranches #23 team competed in a trio of events this past weekend looking to improve his position within the top ten of WISSOTA's national points as the season winds down. Friday and Saturday the team competed at the Princeton Speedway in Princeton, MN for the 2nd annual P-Town Showdown and Sunday night, Matt competed at the Granite City Speedway in Sauk Rapids, MN to round out the weekend.

1Friday, after the track received afternoon rains, Matt's luck didn't turn out very well as he drew poorly and started and finished at the back of his heat race and then was involved in a crash mid-way through the feature event causing him some substantial cosmetic damage, ending his night early.

Saturday turned out much better for the team as Matt won his heat race  and then, after starting sixth, raced toward the front and battled for the lead and the win throughout much of the main event, eventually finishing a close third when the final checkered flew.

1Sunday, Matt ran fifth in his heat race, putting him behind the eight ball a bit for the 25-lap feature event, but after working his way from his 15th starting spot into the top 8, he was involved in an altercation, which forced him to the tail for a late-race restart. On the restart, Matt worked his way from his 18th restarting spot to a respectable 12th place finish.

September 13th, 2014 - Gilbertson Charges to Seventh in WISSOTA 100
1Matt and his Seubert Calf Ranches sponsored #23 competed in the $6,000 to win WISSOTA 100 at the Dakota State Fair Speedway in Huron, South Dakota this past weekend, which kicked off on Wednesday night with the first round of qualifying for the year-ending mega event. Matt raced from his third starting spot to a solid runner up finish in his heat race, putting him into the night's qualifying feature. The qualifying feature determined the first 12 spots in Saturday night's main event, so finishing position was important. Matt rolled off 10th and raced to a seventh place finish in the 15 lapper.

Matt then had Thursday night off and competed in the Race of Champions event on Friday night. This event featured all of WISSOTA's track champions and Race of Champions event qualifiers and paid $1,600 to win. Matt lined up 13th in the event and after a few laps on a very abrasive surface, Matt retired from the event to save his equipment for Saturday night.

On Saturday, Matt started the 35-lapper in the 13th spot, which was the inside of the 5th row on the 3-wide start. The race went green and Matt was involved in an early skirmish, which caused him to suffer a flat tire. The MGR crew changed the tire and Matt re-started at the tail, which was 32nd out of the 33 original starters. The race then went green and Matt sliced and diced his way back through the field to come home with a very impressive 7th place finish!

September 6th, 2014 - Gilbertson Lands a Pair of Top Fives in Fall Nationals at KRA
1Matt competed in a pair of events at the KRA Speedway in Willmar, MN this past weekend as a part of the track's 2-day Charlie Nelson Fall Nationals. Matt had mechanical issues in his heat race on Fright night, which buried his #23 deep in the starting lineup for the main event. Matt then charged from his 14th starting spot to record a fifth place finish on the first night of the year ending special. Saturday night, the team drew poorly and started eighth in the heat race, but moved forward to record a fourth place finish, setting them up with a seventh starting spot in the feature event. During the main event, Matt moved his #23 steadily toward the front and wound up with a 3rd place finish when the final checkered flag flew. Results can be found at

September 1st, 2014 - Busy Labor Day Weekend for Matt Gilbertson Racing
1Matt continued his busy schedule with four events over the course of the Labor Day weekend. Friday night, he and his MGR team competed on season championship night at the Fiesta City Speedway in Montevideo, MN. After winning his heat race from the pole, Matt then was involved in a first lap skirmish, which sent him and fellow front row starter Brian Haben to the tail of the field for a restart. The duo were locked in a one point battle for the track championship, so the race was literally on to see who could get closer to the front to secure the track title. Matt raced his way to a third place finish, one spot ahead of Haben, which secured the track championship for Matt and his team!

1Saturday and Sunday, the team competed in the final two events on the Advantage RV Modified Tour at the North Central Speedway in Brainerd, MN.

Saturday night, Matt won his heat race from the pole with ease and then redrew the pole for the feature as well, but after leading the first thirteen laps of the main event, the 4bar broke and Matt was sidelined for the remainder of the event.

Sunday, the team made repairs and came back with another heat race win from the pole and this time drew fifth for their starting spot for the feature and ran amongst the leaders the entire distance, settling for a sixth place finish at the final checkered flag. The team finished fourth in the final RV Tour point standings.

Labor Day Monday, the team completed in the final track points night of the year at the Madison Speedway in Madison, MN and after racing from fifth to second in his heat race, Matt then settled in to a tenth place finish in the feature, capping off a long weekend of competition across Minnesota.
