January 17th, 2016 - Matt Gilbertson Finishes in 5th in WWS Point Standings
1 Matt continued his early season racing action at the USA Raceway in Tucson, Arizona during the 2016 Wild West Shootout as he and the MGR team raced in the final 4 events of the tour.

Wednesday night, Matt raced from deep in a stacked heat race to win, earning the night's top amount of passing points and putting his #23 on the pole for the night's feature for the second time of the week. Matt settled in to second early in the main event and after a handful of cautions plagued the early part of the event, Matt and the third place running car made contact and Matt suffered a flat tire under caution. The crew changed the tire and Matt rejoined the field at the tail for the remainder of the 25-lap event. Matt then began his push forward and stormed through the field into the top five and settled in with an impressive fourth place finish when the checkered flag flew.

Friday night, Matt battled a tough draw and hammer down racing surface to come home with a third place finish in the heat race and a 16th place run in the night's main event after all was said and done.

Saturday, again Matt didn't have the pill draw on his side and he raced to a sixth place finish in his heat race, was forced to run one of the b-mains, which he finished third in and then had a good run from 23rd to 11th in the night's main event, salvaging a decent night.

Sunday's finale saw Matt again race to a top three finish in his heat race with a third place finish and then battle all night long in and around the top five during the 25-lap main event, eventually coming home with a sixth place finish capping off a good week in the desert.

Matt qualified for all 6 shows during the mini series with three top ten finishes and wound up fifth in the final week long point standings.
